Resources to Help Seniors with the Energy Crunch
Shasta County Utility customers may receive emergency assistance through the Power To Seniors program if they are 60 years old or older, and meet income guidelines. Seniors must have a shut off notice or their utilities have already been shut off. Individuals may call (530) 223-6034 to see if they qualify.

Help with Utility Bills
CARES (Community Assistance for Redding Electric Service - City of Redding)
Once every two years assistance only (shut off notice may be required). You may call (530) 339-7200 or come to their office at 777 Cypress Ave., Redding. City of Redding Utilities Budget billing (provides for equal monthly payments to qualified residential customers) or amortization program (provides a method of paying an existing balance over time to qualified residential customers). Call (530) 245-7200 to find out if you qualify for any of these programs.
City of Redding Lifeline Program
Applications available by calling (530) 339-7200 Monday-Friday from 8am - 5pm. Must be 62 and over or disabled. The maximum benefit is 20% discount of the first 600 Kilowatt-hours, up to the maximum of $13.54 per month. The deduction will appear on your monthly bill. 1 person - $1614 per month or less. 2 persons - $1764 per month or less. 3 persons - $1914 per month or less. 4 persons - $2064 or less. (Scheduled to be revised in near future).
PG&E - CARES Program
Alternate Rates for Energy - Applications available by calling 1-800-743-5000 or at Golden Umbrella. Provides a discount off monthly bill. one or two person in household $22,000 per year or less. Three people $26,600, four people $32,000 and for additional people in the home please add $5000 per person. Should inquire about a payment plan. Rates may also be negotiated to persons with documented extensive medical needs.
REACH (Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help - PG&E)
One-time assistance only. Must have a shut-off notice, can pay up to $200 for those customers whose income for a household of 2 persons at or below $1,875 per month. (No HUD recipients) Call the Salvation Army, Monday-Friday from 1-3pm. (530) 222-2207
SHARE (City of Shasta Lake)
Must have a shut-off notice. Provides $100 discount off utilities per year for qualifying City of Shasta Lake electric customers. Call the Salvation Army from 1-3pm. (530) 222-2207
HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program)
Provides once a year assistance for income-eligible customers. Telephone applications are taken Tuesdays 1-4 pm; for wood, oil, and propane, Tuesday mornings 8 - 11 am. Call (530) 378-6900 for more information. PROPANE USERS Should inquire about a payment plan or refer to HEAP for one time assistance.
