Welcome to the Mercy Heart Center

Take the Go Red Heart Check-Up

As a cornerstone champion of the American Heart Association's (AHA) Go Red For Women Heart Campaign, Mercy Medical Center Redding wants to challenge you (men and women) to take better care of your heart. The collaborative team of the AHA and Mercy invite you to take the Go Red Heart Check-Up, an interactive, on-line assessment of your heart health. Heart disease is the number one killer of women and we all need to be aware of the risk factors, signs and symptoms of this life-altering disease. The Go Red Heart Check-Up will help women calculate the risk of having a heart attack or cardiovascular disease in the next 10 years and offer ways to help you make changes to reduce that risk.

To take the Check-Up, click www.goredforwomen.org and select the Go Red Heart Check-Up icon.

The North State's Most Complete Heart Center

The Mercy Heart Center offers the most comprehensive range of heart care services in the North State...including "beating heart" surgery. In addition to the latest in technology, we have clinical protocols in place to help ensure care is quickly available to anyone who needs it...regardless of distance or ability to pay.

Nationally Renowned Leader in "Beating Heart" Surgery

Traditional heart surgery requires stopping the patient's heart with drugs. Doctors then depend on machines to circulate blood to the patient's brain and other internal organs while repairing the patient's heart.

But "traditional" is not always best.

The skill and experience of Mercy heart surgeons and support staff means that 90% of our heart surgeries can be done without stopping the heart. In those cases, heart-lung machines are not required and patients can avoid many post-operative side effects and return more quickly to a normal routine.

At the Mercy Heart Center, we work with many of the North State's finest independent, board-certified cardiac specialists. They make decisions based on their determination of what is best for their patients.

Our Mission Makes a Difference

We are committed to our mission and values as a non-profit, religiously based medical center to help patients and their families receive the best clinical care possible. We believe in treating our patients with the utmost compassion and respect. We pursue a special spirit at Mercy to help make a positive difference for our patients. Our Heart Center staff will visit with you and your family - and help you decide with your physician what is best for you.

The Full Range of Care...The Full Measure of Caring

Heart care is a complicated process. From diagnosis through rehabilitation, our Heart Team works together to help you receive the most appropriate treatment. Mercy offers a complete range of diagnostic options including:

  • Stress EKG
  • Echocardiography
  • Contrast echocardiography
  • Impedance cardiography
  • Nuclear Perfusion and Dynamic Imaging studies
  • MRI
  • CT Scan, using the latest cardiac applications for our 64-Slice CT Unit
  • Digital heart catheterization

The most definitive test for heart disease is digital heart catheterization, which uses a camera to give a highly accurate, internal picture of the heart and its arteries. The Mercy Heart Center includes two of the most advanced digital catheterization labs that can detect heart disease in its early, most treatable stages and quickly provides clear and accurate information in emergency situations.

Based on results from digital catheterization and other diagnostic tests the Mercy Heart Center provides facilities for:

  • bypass surgery
  • vascular repair and replacement
  • angioplasty
  • stenting
  • medical management used alone or in addition to surgery

This allows patients, their physicians and families to have access to advanced treatment regimens and staff to help implement their treatment decisions.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Puts You Back on the Road to Good Health

Our services do not need to end once your surgery or catheterization procedure is finished. We can stay involved with you in your recovery to regain strength and vitality. Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Center offers a medically-monitored and effective program to help rebuild your heart's health. You can workout by using a wide variety of exercise equipment to the tunes of upbeat music; and with a group of like-minded individuals. Your progress will be carefully monitored by heart rehabilitation team members to help you get the maximum benefit at minimum risk.

Cardiac Nurse Liaisons Support Your Physician

During your recovery and rehabilitation from heart surgery, a cardiac nurse practitioner can meet with you and your loved ones at any step along the way. Your physician is always your primary caregiver but our nurse practitioner can also help you better understand your condition and your course of care.

Community Education: Prevention, and More

Wouldn't it be ideal to identify heart disease in its earliest stages, or before it has even begun? The Mercy Heart Center sponsors, free community seminars by leading physicians about current issues in cardiac medicine. These classes are open to the public and cover important topics like diabetes prevention, congestive heart failure, A-Fib care and heart-healthy nutrition. Please call (530) 24-MERCY (530-246-3729) to see when the next class is being scheduled.

We also work closely with the American Heart Association, the Diabetes Association and other groups to help increase public awareness of heart health issues. At health fairs and community gatherings, Mercy offers screening, educational literature and information about the primary prevention of heart disease.

To learn more about local heart health events call (530) 24-MERCY (530-246-3729).
