Redding has a host of public and private schools. Several of our public school system has been recognized by the state as California Distinguished Schools. Our API scores above average and school violence is very low. Charter schools are also popular in the North State. University Preparatory School (6-12) is one of the newest and has achieved some of the highest test scores in the area.
Redding is also home to a community college and Christian University. Shasta Community College offers classes for everyone. They are also affiliated with Chico State University and offer Bachelors Degrees at the Redding Campus. Shasta College opened a new Health and Science building in the heart of downtown Redding. This building is home to a nursing school, dental hygiene school and other related fields.
Simpson University provides Christ-centered higher education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and for traditional and nontraditional students.
Along with great faculty and staff, each educational facilities offer performing arts, sports and other extra circulator activities. Each institution takes great pride in their community involvement.
Shasta County provides comprehensive elementary and secondary educational programs. These programs are provided in:
- 25 school districts
- 40 elementary schools
- 13 middle schools
- 8 high schools
- 4 continuation high schools and
- 30 private schools
- There are several special centers and classes for the handicapped, a federally funded Head start project, and a home study program.
